EXERCISES FOR THE NEWBORN BABY
Hello dear prospective mothers and fathers and current mothers and fathers as well,
In today’s program I will tell and demonstrate you the exercises that would support the intellectual and physical development of your newborn baby. When you lay down your baby and observe him/her, you will see that he/she bends his/her arms and legs at knees and elbows to keep close to his/her body. After you open his/her closed fist and pull his/her hand, his/her hand will go back to his/her previous position following its release. In the meantime you might hear the cracking sounds the joints would make, these sounds must not scare you. The muscles and bones of babies are like plastic fibers. These type of sounds are normal. You can have your baby perform exercises starting from 40 days after birth. Especially asymmetric exercises would foster excellent brain development as they equally stimulate the right and left brain lobes in babies. To be able to do these exercises your baby must not be hungry and it must be at least half an hour after his/her feed. Hold your baby’s arms and as you move one up slowly, lower the other one and reverse and repeat. Repeat this move 10 times. Following this; move the arms of your baby up and down a few times. Then open his/her arms to the sides before wrapping them up around his/her body for his/her back and shoulders. Repeat this move a few times. Later on open one of his/her arms to the side while holding the other close to his/her chest, reverse and repeat the exercise. Following these moves start your baby on leg moves. Again prefer asymmetric moves such as moving one leg up while moving the other down imitating walking. Follow this by pushing his/her knees towards his/her tummy. This is a move you would frequently repeat. Then move his/her legs up, place one leg on his/her tummy while the other leg is up, reverse positions and repeat. Join and cross his/her legs over his/her tummy, open them and bring the other leg up to join with the other. Following these moves, join his/her arms and legs diagonally. These moves are easy for your baby to perform, so don’t be scared or refrain from having your baby perform these. Babies are very flexible. After performing these exercises turn him/her face down without lifting his/her head. It is good for them to stay face down and after a few taps on his/her back your baby relaxes.
