Importance of Mother’s Milk and Breastfeeding:
Hello dear prospective mothers and fathers and current mothers and fathers as well,

Today I will tell you about the breastfeeding process and the importance of breastfeeding.
Many women can understand whether they are pregnant or not from the changes taking place in their breasts. If they are pregnant, then the changes in the breast tissue would continue all through the pregnancy.
During pregnancy, the color of the nipples and areola would darken, and new developments take place. These developments emit a scent to help the baby find its way to his/her mother’s breast.  The milk ducts inside the breast direct the flow of the milk to the mother’s nipples. Many women experience some milk being secreted from their breasts in the 6th and 7th month of their pregnancies. This is actually true, as your body starts producing milk during your pregnancy. After your baby is born the only things that comfort him/her would be being in his/her mother’s arms, held in her lap and being put to the breast. Suckling on their mothers’ breasts comfort the babies and help them fall asleep. Upon waking up, a baby would again want to be in his/her mother’s arms and suckle milk.
This process continues within the first few months. When you have your baby in your arms, especially at the beginning, helping your baby to latch onto your breast in a half reclining position would ensure an increase in milk supply as the baby is able to suck milk from both breasts.
However, as mother and the baby become more proficient in this process, they can choose the best position that suits them - this could be lying down, lying on one side, stretching up with the baby held in mother’s arms.
You must feed your baby with only breast milk until the 6th month. Even water would not be necessary.  After the 6th month additional food items could be introduced. We don’t need to hurry. We should start with small amounts of food and continue feeding the baby with breast milk. World Health Organization’s recommended duration of breastfeeding is 2 years. You can breastfeed your baby in his/her first year and after introducing other food items you can continue breastfeeding him/her for 2 years.
